The Sten A Olsson Foundation Celebrates its 30th Anniversary with a Call for Research Proposals

The Stena A Olsson Foundation is announcing funding for research projects aimed at increasing knowledge about the mental health of children and young people and strengthening society’s efforts in this area. Each project may receive up to 20 million SEK.

The Stena A Olsson Foundation, which will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2026, now welcomes applications for interdisciplinary research that examines the prevalence and development of mental health problems among children and young people in Sweden, as well as how interventions at both the individual and system levels can be improved. The research may also explore the interaction between children and young people and the institutions that support them—such as preschool, school, student health services, healthcare, social services, and civil society organizations—while also considering the role of parents and the home environment.

Of particular interest is research on early identification of and support for children with neuropsychiatric conditions. Studies focusing on lifestyle factors such as sleep, digital media use, diet, and physical activity are also prioritized. The Foundation additionally welcomes comparative studies involving children and young people in other countries.

The increasing mental health problems among children and young people represent one of the most urgent societal challenges of our time. With this call, we aim to enable research that not only explains the development but also leads to concrete measures that make a real difference in the lives of children and young people,” says Madeleine Olsson Eriksson.
