Martin Hederos

“I follow my intuition and see myself as basically a fiddler, someone who has it in their fingers.”

Pianist, violinist, arranger, and composer. The multi-talented and versatile musician Martin Hederos moves freely between various genres and styles, though always leaving his distinctive signature.  It’s quite a range: rock, jazz, improvisation, folk music, classical composers, pop, ballads, music for the screen and the stage. Or collabs combining words and music, such as the Osebol project with Marit Kapla, another 2023 Stena Culture Scholarship recipient.

Motivation:
Musician and composer Martin Hederos has, for nearly three decades, made his mark on the Swedish music scene: as a member of bands such as The Soundtrack of Our Lives, Tonbruket, and Hederosgruppen, as a popular duo partner, as an accompanist to acclaimed artists, as a bandleader, and as a composer of music for film and television productions.

He mainly plays piano and keyboards, but the first instrument Martin Hederos  learned to play was violin, providing him with musical roots in the folk fiddle tradition of Värmland. When it comes to genres, he moves freely between rock, pop, jazz, and classical music, always expressed in his distinctive “less is more” manner.

For his melodic perceptiveness, lyrical tone, and a musicality that transcends genres, Martin Hederos is awarded the 2023 Culture Scholarship from the Sten A Olsson Foundation for Research and Culture.
