Lena Trapp

“When it comes to creating, I never exclude anything. And in a decade from now, when lots of new things are around, maybe I’ll express myself in completely different ways.”
Lena Trapp’s art moves in the borderlands between dreams and reality, nature and technology, regardless of whether she works with advanced 3D-technology and innovative animations or with more traditional materials and expressions. The observer is invited to explore outer and inner spaces, to shift between layers of time and memories, where water is often the foundation.
Motivation:
Lena Trapp raises questions about how we, in times of increased technologization, perceive ourselves and our station in the world. She employs visually striking media to map the unstable and fleeting spaces that arise between time, consciousness, and myth. In a number of exhibitions in Sweden and abroad, Lena Trapp has addressed the format of the exhibition itself, creating spaces that not only challenge our perceptions about shape and structure, but also shine a light on the way we humans interact with our surroundings.
For art that in its own winding way combines spaces that are real, imagined, and virtual, Lena Trapp is awarded the 2024 Culture Scholarship by the Sten A Olsson Foundation for Research and Culture.
