Karin de Frumerie

“The most liberating and worthwhile thing about being an actor is working as a group, that everything depends on communication, on working together.”

For two years now, Karin de Frumerie has been a member of the ensemble at Göteborgs Stadsteater, where she has portrayed the title character in Shakespeare’s Hamlet but also Monica Zetterlund in the musical Monica’s Waltz. Karin de Frumerie’s background as an elite gymnast with  a parallel career as a singer has provided her with valuable experience that enrich her performance and interpreting skills as an actor.

Motivation:

Actor and singer Karin de Frumerie is a graduate of the Academy of Music and Drama at the University of Gothenburg, and she is a member of the ensemble at Göteborgs Stadsteater. Her background as an elite gymnast along with her life-long affinity for music and singing are reflected in her acting.

It makes no difference if it’s musical theater, as in Monica’s Waltz, where her perceptive interpretation of Monica Zetterlund had popular appeal, or if she’s playing the main character in the play of all plays, Shakespeare’s Hamlet – her acting is spot on. She builds her characters, embodies them and infuses them with music, guided by her sense of tonality.

For her physical acting, her musical versatility, and her way with words Karin de Frumerie is awarded the 2024 Culture Scholarship by the Sten A Olsson Foundation for Research and Culture.
